A Foundation Built On Celebrating the Underdog

Bubba was a friend to many, a community leader, a businessman, and a champion of the underdog. When he was diagnosed with a serious illness and had no insurance to cover the costs, the community rallied in a remarkable way. A benefit event was held in his honor, and although Bubba tragically passed away the morning of the event, the community raised $75,000 to help pay his medical bills.

From that outpouring of support, the Bubba Moore Memorial Group was born. Its initial goal was to carry on Bubba’s legacy and give back to the community he loved so deeply. Rose Selman, a founding member and the current BMF Secretary, has been involved from the very beginning. She has said the foundation started as a small way to honor a friend but has since grown into so much more; a vehicle for helping others in need.

We're changing the game.

BMF, also known as the Bubba Moore Foundation, began as a way to honor the life of William Fowler “Bubba” Moore, a beloved local figure in Bryan-College Station.

One of the key initiatives that helped propel the foundation forward was the annual golf tournament.

What began with just 12 teams in its first year at Pecan Lakes in Navasota has grown into a major event, with 52 teams participating in 2024 at Pebble Creek Country Club. In 2024, the 20th annual BMF Golf Classic raised over $100,000 for organizations in the Brazos Valley.

This success has given the foundation a platform to provide unrestricted funding to a wide range of organizations, allowing support to go where it is needed most. In addition, BMF has helped individuals facing serious, life-altering medical challenges when they had nowhere else to turn.

After fulfilling a major commitment to fund the renovation of Phoebe’s Home, a shelter for abuse victims in 2020, BMF went on to establish an Endowment Scholarship at Texas A&M University. These two milestones are just a glimpse of the impact this organization has had on the community.

The foundation’s future is bright. Guided by a clear vision, our leadership aims to replicate BMF’s success in other cities, creating a network of volunteer-led efforts that empower communities to support organizations and individuals in need. BMF stands as a testament to the power of community, and its legacy will continue to uplift others and offer hope for a brighter tomorrow.

A Letter From Our President

Hi Friends,

I have had the honor of serving as President of this incredible organization since 2016.

When I first met Bubba, I was a “California girl” new to Bryan-College Station, and honestly, I had no clue what an outsider that made me in many ways. But Bubba, being Bubba, took me under his wing, he was Mr. B/CS & knew everyone, and made me feel like I belonged here. He saw something in me, not just as a business colleague but as a friend. We became close, and when he got sick, like all of his friends, I was there, offering my help in whatever way was needed. Bubba was self-employed and had no medical insurance. The stress of facing a life-threatening illness, coupled with not knowing how to pay for treatment, was overwhelming for him and his wife, Nancy.

His friends gathered to see what they could do to raise money to help offset the financial burden of mounting expenses. Business owners, friends, and the community planned a benefit. That night, our community raised $75,000 for Bubba’s expenses—and this was twenty years ago.

Since then, the foundation has been on a journey all its own. What started as a tribute to Bubba has turned into something much bigger. We now have a small army of people dedicated to helping others, giving back, and making a real difference. To date, we’ve given over $1.52 Million to citizens and organizations in Brazos Valley.

My wish for the foundation is that we’re always here to help. Most charities started in memory of a loved one have an average shelf life of seven years. We’re now in our 21st year.

BMF is 100% volunteer-run. We have genuine partnerships and friendships with our sponsors & benefactors. The unrestricted funds we give to organizations allows them to help those who need it most, without the red tape that often comes with grants or some donations. We’ve also helped individuals when their situations seemed hopeless. The stories are endless, and the testimonials we receive are just a sampling of the impact BMF, and you, have made.
There will always be a need, and as long as there is, we’ll continue to show up and make a difference.

Thank you for being a part of this. Bubba may no longer be with us, but his spirit, generosity, and legacy live on through BMF as we work to create a lasting impact in everything we do.

GOD BLESS,
