BMF, formerly known as the Bubba Moore Foundation, began as a way to honor the life of Bubba Moore, a beloved local figure in Bryan-College Station. Bubba was a friend to many, a community leader, businessman and a champion of the underdog. When he was diagnosed with a serious illness and had no insurance to cover the costs, the community stepped up in a big way. A benefit event was held in his honor, and despite Bubba’s passing the morning of the event, the community raised $75,000 to help pay his medical bills.

Out of that event, the Bubba Moore Foundation was born. The initial goal was to continue Bubba’s legacy and give back to the community he loved so much. Rose Selman, a founding member of the foundation and the current BMF Secretary, was there from the start. Rose has said that the foundation started as a small way to honor a friend and has become so much more – a vehicle for helping others in need.

One of the key initiatives that helped propel the foundation forward was the annual golf tournament. Our golf tournament has grown from just 12 teams the first year at Pecan Lakes in Navasota to 52 teams in 2024 at Pebble Creek Country Club, raising over $100,000 for Brazos Valley organizations…and we’re just getting started. This success has given the foundation a platform to support a wide variety of organizations with unrestricted funds that can be used where they are needed most. BMF has also been able to help individuals that had nowhere else to turn when faced with serious, life altering unexpected medical concerns.

After completing the commitment to fund the renovation of Phoebe’s Home – a shelter for abuse victims, in 2020, BMF established an Endowment Scholarship at Texas A&M University. These two accomplishments are just a sampling of how support of this organization impacts the community.

The foundation’s future is bright. The vision of our leadership is to replicate the success of the BMF in other cities, creating a network of volunteer-led efforts that empower communities to support organizations in need. The foundation has become a testament to the power of community, and its legacy will continue to lift others and give hope for a brighter tomorrow.
